Christmas is seemingly one of the holidays that is celebrated almost worldwide. Movie specials, published books, composed songs, and family gathering—all these occur annually to mark the coming of this holiday. However, in the past year, Ebeneezer Scrooge triumphed over Christmas in the face of the infamous virus! More to the fact, every time citizens from all over the world get used to the new normal, another variant seems to fall onto the planet like a snowstorm. This begs the question, “How will Christmas in 2021 look like?”

Like it or not, COVID is here to stay. It was the constant “Bah! Humbug!” of every festivity that people wanted to celebrate in 2020, and although things have definitely opened back up this year, it seems that the old Ebeneezer’s essence have possessed the virus!

The virus might be our Ghost of Christmas Past this year, but just as good old Ebeneezer did, we did learn a thing or two and won’t need to face the Ghosts of Christmas Present and Future. As the latest update from the White House may tell US citizens, they can still celebrate the holidays. And lockdowns, shutdowns, and overflowing hospitals can and will remain in the past for the time being.

This time may be about festive face masks, rethinking big parties, and vaccination queues that are longer than the queues on shopping centers, but if Ebeneezer Scrooge can have a happy ending, then so can we!
